A wise person and a fool stand in stark contrast to one another. Proverbs remind us of the danger of being stubborn, stiff-necked, and unwilling to receive correction (v. 1).
The way of wisdom begins with a teachable heart. Rather than resisting instruction, we learn to listen and allow God's truth to shape our lives. This wisdom helps us avoid the snares of sin and walk in righteousness (v. 6).
Proverbs also reminds us of the importance of teaching our children while they are young, providing loving corrections and instruction (v. 15, 17). This is accomplished through discipleship in our families. However, we cannot expect others to remain teachable if we are unwilling to receive correction ourselves.
When our hears are open God's instruction then we continue to grow in wisdom. How might I keep my heart teachable and open to the Lord's instruction today?
