What is alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith, and life’s biggest questions, in a friendly, open, and informal environment. It is a series of sessions run over eleven weeks. Alpha is run all around the world in churches, coffee shops, homes, and other meeting places, and everyone is welcome. Today, over 30 million people have done Alpha globally.
Every Alpha session has three key elements: food, a talk, and good conversation.
Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. The talks explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
- Why am I here?
- Who is Jesus?
- What about prayer?
- How does God guide us?

Probably the most important part of any Alpha is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on each topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and safe environment – no matter what the opinions and points of view might be.
Ultimately, Alpha revolves around the small group and the friendships that are formed there. It’s about a journey, taken together.
We encourage everyone to come to the first night simply to check it out, then decide if you want to stay for the whole course. There’s no pressure to come back if it doesn’t seem like a good fit.
