Uzziah, the son of Amaziah, succeeded his father as king. As Uzziah faithfully sought the Lord, he experienced great success. The king triumphed over his enemies with his mighty army, built and fortified cities, expanded his livestock, and prospered from fertile lands. “But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall.” Entering the temple to burn incense, Uzziah acted sinfully despite the warnings of Azariah and eighty priests. Rather than listening to the men of God, the king responded in pride and anger. As a result, the Lord afflicted Uzziah with leprosy, and he was never again permitted to enter the Lord’s temple. .
