Lev. 26:1  “You shall not make for yourselves idols… for I am the Lord your God.” In more than fifty places in Leviticus it says that the Lord spoke to Moses. Nothing that affected the lives of the Israelites was excluded. In chapter 27, God even addressed the use of weights and measures as being governed by His being their Lord.   

Here He addresses the prohibition against idolatry. He was their Lord; they needed no other, nor would He tolerate their lack of fidelity to Him. We do not carve our idols, but idols are often in our hearts – things we desire for which we would trade away some portion of His presence to attain. We need the reminder of the prohibition.
